I have an Officejet7612. It is only properly printing colour documents that don’t need cyan. I have tried cleaning the printer heads several times without any improvement. I think the printer may be at the end of its life. I have two questions.

1. what would be the modern day equivalent. I need A3 colour (and if possible double sided)printing as well A4.
2. Would the printer end of thepower cable of a modern printer be different from that of the 7612? My problem is that the printer stands on a very bulky and heavy sideboard that I cannot move and the plug point is at floor level behind this sideboard. Ideally therefore I need to use the existing cable. If they are different, do adaptors exist? I somehow doubt it.

@Goebelfred, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

I understand you're looking to replace your HP OfficeJet 7612, which is showing signs of wear, especially with cyan printing issues. You're also concerned about maintaining A3 color printing (preferably duplex) and reusing the existing power cable due to accessibility constraints. Let me help you with both queries:

Modern Equivalent to HP OfficeJet 7612 (A3 Color + Duplex)

The HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is the most suitable modern replacement. It supports:

  • A3 and A4 color printing
  • Automatic two-sided (duplex) printing
  • Copy, scan, and fax
  • Wireless, Ethernet, and USB connectivity
  • Uses the same HP 932/933 ink cartridges as your 7612, so you can use your existing stock.

Other alternatives (if you don’t need exact cartridge compatibility):

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e – A3 support, duplex, newer ink system.
  • HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 – A3 support, duplex, similar features.

Power Cable Compatibility

The HP OfficeJet 7612 uses a standard HP AC adapter with a 3-prong power cord. Most modern HP OfficeJet printers, including the 7740, use similar power connectors. So in many cases, you can reuse the existing power cable, especially if it's a detachable IEC C13 type (standard kettle-style plug).

However, if your 7612 uses a brick-style adapter, check the voltage and connector type. The 7740 typically uses a direct AC input, so if the connector differs, adapters are not officially supported by HP, and using third-party ones may void warranty or cause damage.

To be safe:

  • Compare the model number on the power adapter (e.g., 0957-2304 or 0957-2403).

Steps to Replace Your Printer

  1. Choose your replacement: HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is recommended.
  2. Check ink compatibility: If you want to reuse HP 932/933 cartridges, stick with 7740. Which cartridges work with my HP printer? | HP® Support
  3. Inspect your current power cable:
    • If it’s a standard IEC cable, reuse it.
    • If it’s a brick adapter, compare specs before reuse.
  4. Install the new printer:
    • Use HP Easy Start for setup.
    • Connect via Wi-Fi or Ethernet as needed.

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
