NEVERSTOP Laser 1001nw (monochrome). I am getting many white lines running top to bottom.
Steps I have taken so far
1. Checked toner level indicator, which is showing full (i.e. +1 or +2 are not displaying)
2. Removed and shook the imaging drum.
3. Inspected the imaging drum for damage, etc. None evident.
4. Updated the printer firmware.
My questions
1. How do I determine if the imaging drum needs replacement. It is not damaged (no fingerprints or scratches) and I have added toner about 4 or 5 times.
2. Are there settings I should check.
Thanks for any help.

Hi @VieraGuy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've taken some good troubleshooting steps already. Let's address your questions.
Determining if the imaging drum needs replacement: Even if there are no visible signs of damage on the imaging drum, it could still be reaching the end of its usable life, especially if you've refilled toner multiple times. Imaging drums have a limited lifespan, typically measured in terms of pages printed. If you've been using the same imaging drum for a while and are experiencing issues like white lines, it might be time to replace it. You can check the printer's documentation or the HP website for information on expected drum life and replacement intervals.
Checking settings: While white lines are often related to hardware issues like the imaging drum or toner cartridge, there are a few settings you can check on the printer itself or in the printer driver settings on your computer.
- Print quality settings: Make sure the print quality settings are appropriately configured. Lower quality settings might produce more noticeable artifacts like white lines.
- Cleaning mode: Some printers have a cleaning mode that can help clear up issues like this. Check the printer's manual or settings menu to see if there's an option to run a cleaning cycle.
- Toner density: If your printer allows for adjustment of toner density, you could try increasing it slightly to see if that helps reduce the appearance of white lines.
- Paper type and size: Ensure that the paper type and size settings in both the printer and the print driver match the actual paper you're using. Using incorrect settings could lead to print quality issues.
- Firmware: You've already updated the firmware, which is a good step to ensure your printer is running the latest software with any bug fixes or improvements that might address print quality issues.
If you've exhausted these troubleshooting steps and are still experiencing white lines, it's likely that the imaging drum needs replacement or there may be another hardware issue with the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
