Is there a policy about retailers selling expired HP ink without advertising that fact?

I recently bought some HP 85 ink from staples.com, and it expired 15 months ago. They re-shipped replacements, and it was exactly the same.

This is not common in my experience. Have I just been lucky before this?

Hi,

What is your printer model?

Do you refer to an HP 85 ink cartridge (which I couldn't see nowhere on Google) which makes me assume it was discontinued and no longer manufactured, or may refer to a 85A Toner cartridge?

I am asking what I think is a general question. My operating system does not matter either. But thanks for trying to help.

As I said, it is an HP 85 ink cartridge. Light Magenta. Full HP number is C9429A. Not toner. DesignJet Ink cartridge. HP Thermal inkjet.

But my question I think is relevant to any HP ink cartridge, wondering if there is some expectation I should have about not getting long-expired ink when buying it new from a reputable merchant. Does HP have any policy on this?
