Hello, the SETUP cartridges that came with the printer were damaged and could not be detected by the printer. I bought new cartridges, and now I'm getting the "Use SETUP Cartridges" error. Is there any way to bypass this or purchase new SETUP cartridges?

Hello, my device model is HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2335 All-in-One Printer.

Hi @MaksimusLos,

You can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

1. Verify Printer Model and Cartridge Requirements

  • Confirm Model: Make sure your printer model is indeed the HP DeskJet 2300 series. The exact model number might be slightly different, which could affect cartridge requirements.
  • Check Documentation: Review the printer’s manual or quick start guide to see if there are any specific instructions regarding setup cartridges.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and from the power source.

Wait:

  • Leave the printer unplugged for about 60 seconds to ensure that any residual power is discharged.

Reconnect and Restart:

  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and the power source. Turn the printer back on and see if the issue persists.

3. Check for Cartridge Installation

Open Cartridge Access Door:

  • Open the cartridge access door on the printer. The carriage where the ink cartridges are installed should move into the center.

Ensure Proper Installation:

  • Make sure that both the black and color cartridges are installed correctly. They should click into place securely.

Remove and Reinstall Cartridges:

  • If the cartridges seem to be installed correctly but the issue persists, try removing and reinstalling them. Ensure that you’re using genuine HP cartridges that are compatible with the DeskJet 2300.

4. Use the HP Smart App or Printer Software

Download HP Smart:

  • If you haven’t already, download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or HP’s website.

Setup Printer:

  • Follow the instructions in the HP Smart app to set up your printer. The app can sometimes resolve issues related to cartridge detection and printer setup.

5. Check for Firmware Updates

Open HP Smart or Printer Software:

  • Open the HP Smart app or any HP printer software installed on your computer.

Check for Updates:

  • Look for any firmware or software updates available for your printer and apply them if necessary.

For the exact error that appears, please see attached image. The problem is that the SETUP cartidges that came with the printer were damaged and could not be detected by the printer. So I bought new cartidges which prompted this error. image.png
