I was given a second-hand 7500, in very good condition, but exhibiting  the Ink System failure message.

I bought a new printhead and cartridges, but upon switch-on the animation for "installing new cartridges" comes on, and will not go away.

I believe there are setup cartridges supplied with a new printer, but obviously I do not have these. Is there a bypass method to overcome this problem please?

Hi @lrh52,

I'd like to help!

The printhead goes with setup ink, I suggest you try the below steps to resolve the error.

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Update the printer firmware

Updating the printer firmware might resolve printhead problems. Go to Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware for more information.

Reseat the printhead up to three times

You might need to reseat the printhead up to three times.

If the issue persists, I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your printer

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thankyou for your reply, however it is the standard reply that HP staff issue to this question!

I did research his problem before posting, and had tried all the steps that you suggested.

There is no firmware upgrade listed for the 7500 Wide Format Printer.

So, back to my original question, are there Setup cartridges still available for this printer, or is there a genuine workaround for this problem?

As you are using a brand new printhead with setup cartridges, the bypass will not work.

But I have shared the instructions in a private message.

Hi, thanks for the pm and instructions, but I am sorry to say that they did not work. I could not get into the service menu, the "install cartridges animation" stayed on the screen and would not respond to the buttons you suggested. If I call the local service centre (about 150 kms away!), can they be of any more assistance?

HP Recommended

We do not have service centers for printers, but you can reach our phone support team for service options.

Follow the instructions below to reach them:

1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences.

6)Fill the web-form and proceed further.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Have a great day!
