So, this old dinosaur has had this as a recurring but solvable problem, and only now has the problem started becoming stubborn.

I have tried a few methods to resolve this myself, but the problem has not gone away entirely. It prints the text properly, but any images with black and color ink end up vertically misaligned from each other.

Aligning the cartridges through HP Solution Center did not help. Cleaning it twice did not work. Hard restarting did not work. Changing the cartridge did nothing. Even trying to print it in grey through print settings did not resolve it.

The only partial solution that worked was removing the color cartridge and force the printer into single-cartridge mode, but I would like to use my printer at its fullest capabilities.

Are there other methods I can try? Is there a way I can manually align it?

@Alderic

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the print quality.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Are you facing the same issue when you make a copy?

Meanwhile, I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall and check if it helps.

Here is how it is done.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.

I have done as instructed, but the printer heads remain vertically misaligned even after going through the alignment steps twice.

If you are using HP60 ink  it is defective: see post Ink-not-aligning-for-smaller-text .   Best solution is buy expired ink 2019,2018 and realign and then use your printer.  The  ink should be refunded.
