Hi @Jacalyn24

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "remove shipping lock from black cartridge" message usually appears when you install a new ink cartridge, and it still has a protective shipping lock in place. This is a common issue with many HP printers, and it’s simple to resolve.

Here’s what you need to do:

Power off the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for safety.

Remove the Ink Cartridge:

  • Open the cartridge access door on your printer.
  • Carefully remove the black ink cartridge from the printer.
  • Look for a small plastic shipping lock or tape on the cartridge. This is usually a small, colorful plastic tab or strip that locks the ink in place during shipping to prevent leakage.

Remove the Shipping Lock/Tape:

  • Gently pull off any plastic shipping lock or protective tape. If it’s a small tab, just pull it straight out. If it’s tape, carefully peel it off.
  • Be sure to remove all protective covers. Some ink cartridges come with a tape covering the ink nozzle as well. Remove this too if present.

Reinstall the Cartridge:

  • Once the shipping lock and any tape are removed, reinstall the black ink cartridge into the printer.
  • Press down gently until it clicks into place.

Close the Cartridge Access Door:

  • Close the printer’s access door and turn the printer back on.

Try Printing Again:

  • Attempt to print something to see if the issue has been resolved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
