I just purchased an HP DeskJet 2734e and had to replace the demo cartridges that came with it almost immediately.  I installed both black and tricolor HP ink cartridges and began to print out my annual Christmas newsletter which contains colored pictures.  I only got about 16 pages before the color cartridge ran completely out of ink.  This can't be right??

  • Check Print Settings: Ensure that your print settings are appropriate for your document. High-quality or photo settings can consume more ink. Adjusting the settings to a standard or draft mode might help conserve ink.
  • Print in Draft Mode: Draft mode uses less ink than the standard or high-quality modes. For non-critical documents, try printing in draft mode to see if it improves ink usage.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause issues with ink management. Visit the official HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Use HP Smart App: The HP Smart App provides additional settings and features for your printer. It might have options to optimize ink usage or troubleshoot ink-related issues.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Firmware updates can sometimes address performance issues and improve ink efficiency.
  • Verify Cartridge Authenticity: Ensure that the replacement ink cartridges you installed are genuine HP cartridges. Using third-party or counterfeit cartridges might result in inaccurate ink level readings and poor performance.
  • Run Print Quality Diagnostic: Many printers have a built-in diagnostic tool that can help identify issues with print quality and ink usage. Check your printer's manual for instructions on running a print quality diagnostic.

 

Remember that the number of pages a cartridge can print can vary depending on factors like content complexity, print settings, and the actual amount of ink used for each print.
