The background:
HP Envy 4500 printer is currently equipped with a single brand new black ink cartridge
Single cartridge mode is listed as being enabled in the HP smart program
still unable to print - when trying to print I receive a "out of ink" error message
the request:
how to make this printer actually print in single cartridge mode. I have no use for color printing, nor do I want to purchase a cartridge I have no need of

Hi,
Try following below specific version of the HP Print and Scan Doctor Utility by selecting your printer:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe
Be sure to restart your PC and allow the utility to complete the process, then check for any difference.
Try printing and check for any change, if the same remains try printing using the newly added print queue copy (Copy1) and check for any difference.
