I've had this printer for a while. If the waste ink container ever fills up, is there a way to clean/replace it?

The software has a counter that goes into error after a certain number of prints, so there's no other option but to replace the printer.

Hi @Zak2298,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The HP Smart Tank 7005 All-in-One printer, like many ink tank printers, utilizes a waste ink container (often referred to as an ink absorber or maintenance box) to collect excess ink during cleaning and printing operations. It is important to address the waste ink container when it fills up to maintain printer functionality.

  • Cleaning/Replacement: Unfortunately, many consumer-grade printers, like the HP Smart Tank series, do not provide user-accessible options to clean or replace the waste ink container. Typically, the waste ink pad is not designed to be replaced by the user, and it often requires service by an authorized technician.

  • Service Option: If your waste ink container is full and causing errors, it is advisable to contact HP support or an authorized service center. They may offer maintenance services or guide you through potential warranty options or repairs.

  • Printer Software Counter: The printer software does indeed have a counter that tracks ink usage and cleaning cycles to prevent overflow and damage. Once the waste ink container reaches full capacity, the printer will trigger an error signal.

While the printer is designed to handle a certain number of maintenance cycles, it should not necessitate replacing the entire printer solely for a full waste ink container. Proper servicing can usually resolve the issue without the need for a replacement.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
