My Smart Tank 7605 stopped printing Cyan part way through a document.  Checked ink levels tank almost full.  Did a print head clean several times still not printing Cyan, but  black, magenta and yellow are fine.  Did a print head alignment still no Cyan.  Bought a new print head but when I open the Ink Access Door the carriage doesn’t move to the centre, but a message appears telling me to close door to continue.  Tried a factory reset, no change.  There is no paper jam and I can print documents, so the carriage is able to move but the colours are wrong of course as there is no Cyan.  My printer is only 14 months old and gets very light use so can anyone help me please!

It sounds like you've already gone through several troubleshooting steps, which is great for isolating the issue. Since you've already replaced the print head and performed a factory reset without success, there might be a more technical problem at play.

 

Here are a few additional steps you can try.

 

  • Manual Carriage Movement: With the printer turned off, try to manually move the carriage to the center of the printer. This may require gentle force, but be careful not to damage anything. Once the carriage is in the center, turn the printer back on and see if it initializes correctly.
  • Inspect for Obstructions: Even though you've checked for paper jams, there could still be small obstructions hindering the movement of the carriage or the ink delivery system. Use a flashlight to carefully inspect the printer's interior for any debris or foreign objects.
  • Update Firmware/Drivers: Ensure your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Sometimes, an outdated firmware version can cause unexpected issues. You can usually find the latest firmware and drivers on the HP website.

Thanks so much for your advice.  Have been through most of the steps again and still couldn’t move the carriage, but managed to ‘catch’ it when it was sliding into position during initialisation as once it had initialised it seemed locked in position unless I printed a page, then it moved freely when I sent something to print and printed but no Cyan.  Changed printhead and then  printed alignment page and print diagnostic perfectly.  Then printed a normal page and Cyan and Magenta fine but no yellow.  Swapped print heads back again and it printed yellow and magenta perfectly but no Cyan again.  So I paid for a support session and the technician said the firmware and software would have updated automatically as I was able to operate the machine from the app and that it must be a hardware issue unfortunately.  Do you think it’s still worth checking the firmware  and software manually?

  • Software Update: Ensure that you have the latest printer driver and software installed on your computer. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues with the printer. You can download the latest drivers and software from the HP website.
  • Check Printer Settings: Double-check the printer settings to ensure that they are configured correctly, especially regarding color settings and cartridge usage. Sometimes, incorrect settings can lead to printing issues.
  • Perform Maintenance Tasks: Run any maintenance tasks provided by the printer software, such as printhead cleaning or alignment, to ensure optimal print quality.
