Hi Everyone:  I hope all of you here and your families are doing well.

With the exception of black in bottle, all other colors have a good amount of ink.  My indicator for black shows about half-full.  Does this printer alert me automatically when I need to re-order another bottle of ink or do I have to monitor this on my own and order when it gets how low?

Thanks, in advance, for your help and I look forward to a reply.

Kind Regards,

BrooklynBabe613

Hi @BrooklynBabe613,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

HP Smart Tank printers provide various alerts and indicators to help you monitor ink levels effectively:

Ink Level Indicators: The printer usually has a display or indicator on the front panel that shows the levels of ink available in each tank. For the black ink, since it is about half-full, you should monitor it to determine when it's time to refill.

Tank Status Messages: The printer will display status messages to inform you when the ink levels are low. For example, messages like "Low" indicate that the ink level is low, and it is a convenient time to refill because a fresh ink bottle's capacity can still be utilized fully.

Notifications for Refilling: While HP printers typically notify you when the ink is significantly low or depleted, you might want to keep an eye on the ink levels, as it can assist in planning when to make the next purchase, especially if you print frequently.

General Tips:

  • Preemptive Refilling: It is advisable to refill the ink tank when the ink level is low to ensure uninterrupted printing. This is especially useful if you have upcoming high-volume printing tasks.

  • Match Colors Correctly: Always ensure that you use the matching ink bottle for each tank to avoid damage to the printer's ink supply system. HP won’t cover repair costs if the wrong inks are used.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
