Hi @ShellBell87,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there could be a couple of issues with your HP Smart Tank Plus 578 printer:
- Ink Cartridge Issue: If the printer is not allowing you to add more ink, it might indicate that the cartridges are not aligning properly or there could be an obstruction preventing them from moving. Try gently moving the cartridges manually (if possible without forcing them) to see if you can access them for inspection.
- Color Printing Issue: If the printer is not printing yellow or blue, despite having sufficient ink, there might be a clog in the printhead or an issue with the ink delivery system for those colors. You can try cleaning the printhead through the printer's maintenance menu. Typically, this involves going to the printer's control panel or using the HP Smart app to find maintenance options like printhead cleaning.
- Cartridge Alignment: Since the cartridges aren't moving to the center, it could indicate a mechanical issue. Make sure there are no paper jams or other obstructions inside the printer that might be preventing normal operation.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve these issues:
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a minute, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes reset minor issues.
- Check for Obstructions: Open the printer's cover carefully and check for any visible obstructions that might be preventing the cartridges from moving.
- Clean the Printhead: If possible, use the printer's maintenance menu to clean the printhead. This process can help resolve issues with ink flow and clogged nozzles.
- Inspect the Ink Cartridges: Remove and inspect the ink cartridges to ensure they are properly seated and that there are no leaks or blockages.
- Update Printer Firmware: Sometimes updating the printer's firmware can resolve software-related issues that affect cartridge movement or ink recognition. Update the firmware on an HP printer
