In the absence of other solutions, here's what I do:

Switch the printer off

Open the lid

Switch the printer on

When the carriage moves so you can access the print heads, unplug the printer

Change the print heads

Plug the printer in again

Wait until alignment page printed

Hi @Sandymac50,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Switch Off the Printer:

  • Ensure the printer is turned off before starting the process.

Open the Lid:

  • Open the lid to access the printheads.

Switch On the Printer:

  • Turn the printer back on. The carriage should move to the center, allowing access to the printheads.

Unplug the Printer:

  • Once the carriage moves and stops in the center, unplug the printer to prevent any movement.

Change the Printheads:

  • Replace the printheads as needed, ensuring you handle them carefully to avoid damage.

Plug the Printer Back In:

  • After replacing the printheads, plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Await Alignment Page:

  • Wait until the printer completes its initialization process and prints the alignment page.

I hope this helps.
