HP OfficeJet Pro 8134e All-in-One Printer

I'm having print quality issues primarily with color but also in grayscale. It's a splotchiness/bleeding that occurs when I print. This printer is brand new so I can't imagine the print heads are clogged because I've printed so much testing trying to figure out what the issue is. Can anyone help me because HP is trash at replying over WhatsApp? I first reached out to them yesterday over WhatsApp and after about 5 hours we only got up to the point of me telling them my printer serial number. I've messaged over WhatsApp multiple times today since they opened at 9 AM and I still haven't heard a peep back. Wondering if I should just return the printer altogether and go with a different brand.

Hi @mmprints,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with print quality issues on a brand-new printer, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check Print Quality Settings:

  • Ensure that you are printing on the right paper type setting in the printer's menu or on your computer. Incorrect settings can cause ink bleeding or splotchiness.
  • Use High-quality or Best Quality print settings to minimize splotching.

2. Clean the Printheads:

  • Even though the printer is new, there might still be some dirt or debris affecting print quality.
  • Use the printer's automated printhead cleaning tool, which you can find in the HP Smart app or printer control panel. This can sometimes clear up minor clogging or alignment issues.

3. Align the Printheads:

  • Misaligned printheads can cause uneven distribution of ink, leading to splotchy prints. Again, this option should be available in the printer's settings or via the HP Smart app.

4. Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Make sure the ink cartridges are properly installed and that they are genuine HP cartridges. Counterfeit or third-party cartridges can cause print quality problems.
  • If you suspect a bad cartridge, try removing and reinstalling them to ensure they’re seated properly.

5. Use Quality Paper:

  • Poor paper quality can contribute to ink bleeding. Ensure you’re using HP-recommended or high-quality paper for your prints, especially for color prints.

6. Firmware Update: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Make sure your printer has the latest firmware update. Sometimes, these updates can fix bugs related to print quality. You can do this through the HP Smart app or the HP website.

7. Manual Printhead Cleaning:

  • If the automated cleaning doesn't work, you can carefully remove the printheads (depending on your model) and manually clean them with a lint-free cloth and distilled water. Be cautious not to damage the printhead.

8. Perform a Factory Reset:

  • A factory reset can sometimes resolve deeper issues. Check your printer’s manual for how to perform a reset, but keep in mind this will also remove any customized settings.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. None of that solved my quality inconsistency issue. I have realized, after a lot of testing, that it must have something to do with the colors I'm using in my designs.
