I'm trying to make stickers and I'm using glossy sticker paper but my printer won't print the designs on the paper. Two pieces of paper come out of the printer. The top paper is just regular printing paper and that's where all my designs are printed. The glossy paper comes out at the same time under the plain paper with nothing on it. I tried feeding just the glossy paper into the printer but it wouldn't do anything. Kept telling me to be sure the paper was in the tray. Is there any glossy sticker paper you can recommend for the 8030 series?

Hi @sheryltoo

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 series is refusing to print designs on glossy sticker paper—and instead accents print on regular paper while the glossy sheets emerge blank underneath—here's what's likely happening and how to correct it.

Why It Happens

The printer won’t print on glossy sticker paper if it detects mixed paper types in the tray.

If the sticker paper is too thick or not inkjet-compatible, the printer may reject it or feed it incorrectly.

Wrong media settings can also cause the printer to ignore the glossy sheet.

How to Fix It

Load only the glossy sticker paper – never mix with plain sheets.

In print settings, set the Paper Type to Photo Paper (Glossy) or Thick Paper.

Set print quality to High / Best so enough ink is applied.

Use inkjet-compatible glossy sticker paper—avoid laser or too-thick stock.

Recommended Sticker Papers

HP Everyday Photo Paper, Glossy (A4/Letter, 200 g/m²)

Though sold as photo paper, this is HP’s recommended glossy paper for inkjets and works well when used with full-sheet adhesive backing (you can apply adhesive sheets on the back if you want “stickers”).

HP Matte Presentation Paper, 120 g/m²

Works well for labels or matte stickers if laminated or mounted onto adhesive sheets.

HP Brochure/Flyer Paper, Glossy or Matte (180–200 g/m²)

Compatible with the 8030 series; gives vibrant, professional-quality prints.

HP Labels (Full-Sheet Adhesive, Inkjet) – sold in some regions

These are designed specifically for inkjet printers and give the best sticker-like results without feeding issues.

Always load one type of media at a time.

Let the stickers dry completely before handling.

If smudging occurs, lower print speed or enable “slow drying” mode in printer settings.

Test on a single sheet before a full run.

With the right settings and thin, inkjet-compatible glossy sticker paper, your HP 8030 should handle sticker projects smoothly.

I finally had a chance to check out one of your suggestions. I put just the glossy sticker paper in my paper tray and it printed out what I needed printed. I will have to try some other glossy paper and see if any work better since I would obviously not be able to use every sheet in my package since my printer needs more than one piece of paper in the paper tray.

@sheryltoo,

Thank you for sharing your update on printing with the glossy sticker paper in your HP 8030 series printer.

It’s great to hear that the printer successfully handled the glossy sticker paper when loaded alone in the tray. Using compatible paper types and adjusting the paper settings can make a significant difference in print quality and paper handling.

If you decide to try other glossy papers, here are a few tips to help optimize your printing experience:

Load only one type of paper at a time: Mixing paper types in the tray can cause feeding issues.

Adjust the printer settings: In the print dialog, select the correct paper type (e.g., glossy or photo paper) to ensure optimal ink application.

Check paper weight and thickness: Ensure the glossy paper you use falls within the printer’s supported range to prevent jams or quality issues.

Use genuine or high-quality paper: This often results in better print durability and color accuracy.
