HP DeskJet 2700e All-in-One Printer

I have a very perplexing (and frustrating) problem with my HP DeskJet 2700e All-in-One Printer printing in black ink. It has no problem printing the texts of Printer Status Report and Printer Information Page about the printer in black ink clearly or boldly.  However, it will not print anything in black, at all, for any other document attempted for printing, for any file format, whether it's in pdf, MS Word or text.  Other colors print just fine.  This cannot not be an issue with the level or the cartridge of black ink ( cartridge # 67), if printing in black works well for one situation, but not at all for another. I called the HP Support, but the person I spoke couldn't help me and only offered $7.99/month printer & ink lease or suggested that I scrap this printer and purchase a new one from HP. Well, I rarely print more than a page at a time to justify leasing and although I may have no alternative but to purchase a new printer if this problem cannot be solved, I want to try every possible solution available, first, before doing so. Any suggestion regarding the cause and, more importantly, the solution to this perplexing problem would be greatly appreciated.
