@SteveW88, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Black Bar on Printouts After Replacing Toner Cartridge!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like the issue could be related to either the toner cartridge or the image drum, even after cleaning.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Check for Toner Spillage: Even though you didn't see anything obvious, sometimes small amounts of toner can spill or get misaligned during installation. Remove the cartridge, and gently shake it from side to side to evenly distribute the toner. Then, reinsert it and test.

Clean the Printer’s Internal Components: Dust or toner particles might be stuck in the printer. Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the printer’s interior and any rollers you can access.

Inspect the Image Drum Again: Make sure the image drum is not damaged. Even if you cleaned it, check for scratches or debris that could cause the black bar. If the drum is damaged, you may need to replace it.

Run a Printer Calibration: Some printers have an automatic calibration or alignment process. Look in your printer’s menu for an option to calibrate or align the printer, which can help fix printing inconsistencies.

Test with a Different Cartridge: If you still see the black bar after these steps, consider testing with a different toner cartridge to rule out the possibility of a faulty cartridge.

If the issue persists, it could indicate a deeper hardware issue with the printer. Let me know how it goes!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey,

I have been an HP customer since 1984. Using large format plotters, to high capacity business printers, to home style printers. inkjet, laserjet, network, non-network. All forms. The quality of this printer is poor at best.

so i shook up the toner, cleaned the imaging drum for the 3rd time. Then i ran the cleaning function 6 times and printed a test page. the results are attached. View from right to left. This is acceptable.IMG_20250218_141853169.jpg

Sorry Zoey, i cannot give you any praise for an issue  that i was able to solve myself. however, someone else suggested i try another cartridge to check if i have a bad cartridge. i would appreciate it if you would send me another cartridge, then i can test that theory. I really doubt if you will send me a $120 cartridge though. Consider this issue closed. My next printer will NOT be HP.
