I bought Staples branded ink cartridges for my Office Jet Pro 8620 which caused a Cartridge Problem "One or more cartridges appear to be damaged..." I returned them and bought genuine HP cartridges but the problem persisted. Spent hours searching the internet, unplugging and replugging, putting old empty genuine cartridges in and out, new cartridges in and out, restarting, etc.  Performed a factory reset which didn't help.

Then I found instructions on how to do a  semi-full reset  and thought it would be a good idea to try that.  Now I am caught in a loop where I still get the Cartridge Problem error but when I open the door, the cartridge carriage doesn't move and I get a Door Open error "The cover or door must be closed to print.  Check that it is completely closed." To top it off, when I type my Serial Number into the HP Support page, it does not recognize it as a valid number.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @SLICKRICK3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing persistent cartridge errors with your HP Officejet Pro 8620 despite using genuine HP cartridges. Here are some steps that can help resolve this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps

Power Reset: Sometimes the printer just needs a reset. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Remove the cartridges and gently clean the electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water. Ensure they're dry before reinserting them.

Check for Firmware Updates: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed  https://support.hp.com/us-en. HP often releases updates that can fix errors and improve functionality.

Reinstall the Cartridges: Double-check that they are installed correctly. Sometimes reinserting them can resolve the problem.

Check the Cartridge Compatibility: Verify that you are using the correct cartridge model for your printer. Even genuine cartridges need to be compatible with your specific printer model.

Try a Different USB Port or Cable: If connected via USB, try a different port or cable, as there could be a connection issue affecting communication with the cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
