HP Neverstop Laser MFP 1202w

My Neverstop Laser 1202 was very low on toner, so I purchased the 143AD dual pack reload kit. I shook the first reload kit, connected it to the printer, rotated it 180 degrees and pushed the plunger down. It went down virtually all the way but did not click. I pressed the cancel button, removed the kit, shook it, and tried again, many times, to no avail. I can print, because there's nearly a full refill of toner in the printer, but I can't add the second refill kit. The printer display continues to show very low toner. I tried unplugging and restarting the printer, without any effect.. What can I do to be able to add the second toner refill kit and to get the printer to recognize that it is no longer low on toner?

Hi @PSNewYork,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I'm sorry you're facing trouble with your Neverstop Laser 1202 toner refill process; I can understand how frustrating it must be when the printer doesn't recognize the refill correctly.

Did the first refill kit release all its toner successfully into the printer, or do you suspect it didn’t empty completely?

  • Are you using the HP genuine 143AD dual pack, and is there any visible damage to the refill kit or the refill port?
  • Has the toner level indicator ever successfully updated after a previous refill, or is this the first time you're encountering this issue?

Let's try these steps.

Ensure Proper Connection of the Refill Kit:

  • Confirm that the refill kit is securely connected to the toner inlet. Push it firmly and rotate the plunger completely. If it doesn't "click," check if any debris or blockage is preventing a proper seal.

Manually Reset the Printer's Toner Sensor:

  • Sometimes, the sensor that detects toner levels can malfunction. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and hold the power button for 30 seconds to reset its memory. Plug it back in and check if the toner level updates.

Inspect the Toner Refill Kit and Port:

  • Examine the refill kit for any physical damage, especially the plunger or connector. Also, check the refill port for any toner residue or obstructions that could prevent the kit from clicking into place.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it. Wait 5 minutes. Plug it back in and press the power button while simultaneously holding down the Cancel button until the printer restarts. This action can reset the internal toner counter.

Update or Reinstall Firmware:

  • If the printer firmware is outdated or corrupted, it might not recognize the refill correctly. Visit the HP support website and download the latest firmware for your Neverstop Laser 1202. Follow the update instructions provided by HP.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it could be a hardware fault with the refill mechanism or the toner sensor. In that case, the next step would be to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance or repair options.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Something prevents the plunger from going completely down. There is a 1/8' gap when I let go of the plunger. It closes completely when I push but it does not click.

Yes, I am using HP genuine products and there is no visible damage or blockage anywhere.  This is the first time I've had this problem.  I tried manually resetting the toner sensor, performing a hard reset, and updating firmware as you suggested. These actions had no effect - the toner level indicator still says toner is very low and I can't load the second toner refill kit.
