Subject: HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2515 – Request for Regionalization Reset

Hello HP Support Team,

I have a second-hand HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2515 printer in Egypt.

My original HP 650 black cartridge works correctly, but two new genuine HP 650 tri-color cartridges (CZ102A) are rejected with the error “Incompatible Ink Cartridges.”

In HP Deskjet Toolbox, the TriColor Ink ID shows 0000000000000000, while the Black Ink ID is detected correctly.

Could you please help me verify the printer's cartridge region and provide the official regionalization reset procedure for this exact printer model?

I am using Windows 11, and the printer is connected via USB.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi @11Johny11

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. Since your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2515 is already using the correct cartridge family for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region (HP 650 Black and HP 650 Tri-color), a regionalization reset is typically only required if the printer was originally activated and used in a different geographic region.

Based on the information provided, the fact that the printer detects the HP 650 Black cartridge correctly but shows 0000000000000000 for the tri-color cartridge ID may indicate that the printer is unable to properly read the installed tri-color cartridge rather than confirming a regionalization mismatch.

To help move this forward, please try the following:

  1. Remove the HP 650 tri-color cartridge and inspect the electrical contacts for any protective tape, debris, or contamination.
  2. Reinstall the cartridge firmly and restart the printer.
  3. If available, test each new HP 650 tri-color cartridge individually to determine whether the behavior is identical with both cartridges.
  4. Print a Printer Status Report or Self-Test Report and check whether the color cartridge is detected.
  5. Ensure the printer firmware is operating normally and that no cartridge access or carriage-related errors are displayed.

If both genuine HP 650 tri-color cartridges continue to show as incompatible while the HP 650 black cartridge is recognized correctly, please share the following details:

  • Printer serial number (via private message)
  • Country where the printer was originally purchased, if known
  • Whether the printer has ever used a working HP 650 tri-color cartridge
  • A photo of the cartridge error message and cartridge label

Once that information is available, we can help determine whether a regionalization reset is applicable for this printer or whether the issue is related to cartridge recognition within the printer itself.

Thank you for choosing HP.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello Hawks_Eye,

Thank you for your response.

Here are the requested details:

  • Printer model: HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2515

  • Country where purchased: Egypt, second-hand. The original country of purchase is unknown.

  • Cartridges tested: Two new, genuine HP 650 Tri-color cartridges (CZ102A), purchased from different shops.

  • Black cartridge: The HP 650 black cartridge is recognized and works correctly.

  • Tri-color cartridge: Both new cartridges produce the same “Incompatible Ink Cartridges” error.

  • TriColor Ink ID: 0000000000000000

  • Cleaning performed: I inspected and cleaned the cartridge contacts, but the issue persists.

  • Previous working color cartridge: I do not know whether the printer previously worked with a color cartridge, as I purchased it second-hand.

I have attached the screenshot of the error message and a photo of the HP 650 Tri-color cartridge label.

Could you please advise how to determine whether the issue is caused by the tri-color cartridge recognition contacts or the printer's internal electronics? I would also appreciate guidance on whether a regionalization reset is still worth attempting.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi @11Johny11

Thank you for providing the additional details and testing with two different genuine HP 650 Tri-color cartridges.

Based on the information shared, a regionalization mismatch appears less likely because the printer is successfully recognizing and using the HP 650 Black cartridge. If the printer were configured for a different cartridge region, it would typically reject all cartridges from the incompatible region rather than only the tri-color cartridge.

The fact that the TriColor Ink ID is reported as 0000000000000000 with both cartridges suggests that the printer is not able to properly communicate with the color cartridge. This can occur if:

  • Both color cartridges are defective (less likely, but still possible).
  • The color cartridge contact circuit inside the printer is not reading the cartridge correctly.
  • There is an issue with the printer's cartridge recognition electronics associated with the tri-color slot.

At this stage, a regionalization reset would not be the primary troubleshooting path since the black cartridge is being detected and accepted normally.

If available, testing a known-working HP 650 Tri-color cartridge from another compatible printer would be the most effective way to determine whether the issue is with the cartridges themselves or the printer's internal color-cartridge detection circuitry.
