My printer had good toner levels and was working fine with no errors before it applied the most recent firmware update from HP. It was using the HP genuine introductory color cartridges shipped in the box with the printer and a genuine black cartridge. My m283 LaserJet receives low usage and mostly black and white printing.
After the HP update applied, the printer was unusable because of the Supply Problem error message that appeared. I have followed all published troubleshooting, restarts, resets. I even tried a firmware downgrade. That didn't help either. The front panel gives no good explanation.
I connected to the web portal for the printer to discover that the printer only has a problem with the 3 genuine HP INTRODUCTORY color cartridges shipped with the printer. Regardless of whether you're printing in color or not, all printing remains blocked.
1. Why did HP kill their own introductory genuine cartridges as if they are non-genuine?
2. Attempts to obtain any support are apparently futile because the support page says my printer does not have a warranty. The printer doesn't have a problem. The new firmware HP pushed to it DOES.
The firmware update release clearly states that functionality was added to block non-genuine cartridges. I had to spend nearly $300 on replacement color cartridges because of either a choice by HP to block its own legit cartridges shipped with the printer -- or it is a firmware bug. Those cartridges might have lasted me another year or two. I could maybe understand this result if I were using non-genuine cartridges, but these were provided in the box! With new color cartridges I can now print black and white.
HP: can you please compensate for this issue with some kind of credit or super-duper coupon? Would you be willing to swap these cartridges out? Maybe you have some introductory cartridges that are detectable as genuine with your new firmware and are not blocked? Granted, at some point I would have needed to purchase new cartridges for the color toner, but I barely use color and the introductory cartridges were not low and worked fine.
Thank you.
