HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 All-in-One Printer

My 9025 printer is 3 years old. I just replaced the yellow, blue, and black ink cartridges - all are HP authorized. the black cartridge was purchased via Amazon and the color cartridges were purchased as a pack from Walmart, so they came in two different packages. However, since installation, I keep getting the Supply System Problem error message saying something is wrong with my cartridges and to contact HP Support. I cannot print a status page or do anything else. I have removed and reinstalled the cartridges several times; I have restarted the printer. Interestingly, sometimes the printer identifies the blue and black cartridges as the problem, sometimes it identifies yellow and black as the problem, and sometimes it just identifies one of the colors as the problem.

Hi @LawBabe,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating this can be, especially after installing new genuine HP ink cartridges.

Since the Supply System Problem message is identifying different cartridges at different times (black and cyan, then black and yellow, or sometimes just one color), we'd like to inspect the cartridges first before proceeding with additional troubleshooting.

Could you please share the following:

  • A clear photo of all four ink cartridges (front side showing the labels and cartridge numbers).
  • A photo of the electrical contacts on each cartridge (please avoid touching the copper-colored contacts).
  • A photo of the error message displayed on the printer screen.

This will help us verify that the cartridges are the correct ones for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9025, check for any visible damage, protective tape that may not have been removed, or anything unusual that could be causing the error.

Once we've reviewed the photos, we'll guide you through the next troubleshooting steps based on what we find.

We look forward to your reply and will be happy to assist further.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.

Hi @LawBabe,

Thank you for sharing the photos of the cartridges. I appreciate you taking the time to provide them.

To help isolate the issue, I'd like you to try installing one cartridge at a time and check the printer's response after each installation.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Turn the printer on and open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove both cartridges.
  3. Install only one cartridge and close the access door.
  4. Check whether the printer displays an error message or reaches the Ready state.
  5. Repeat the same process with the other cartridge installed by itself.

Please let me know:

  • Which cartridge is installed when the error appears?
  • The exact error message displayed by the printer, if any.

This test will help determine whether the issue is isolated to a specific cartridge.

If the printer displays the same error with both cartridges installed individually, then the issue is more likely related to the printhead or the printer's cartridge contacts rather than the cartridges themselves.

Please try the steps above and let me know the results. That information will help us determine the next appropriate troubleshooting step.

I'm an HP Employee.
