My toner cartridges, which have been working fine for months, suddenly ALL stopped working after a firmware update. I consider this step intentional by HP and would like to downgrade my firmware. The setup menu has an option to allow it but there are no instructions available for doing so. Please provide.

TRY THE FIXES BELOW. You need to downgrade your firmware and HP refuses to help. Support is completely unhelpful and they say they don't have access to the older firmware. HP broke our printers with an update and now they tell us there is no fix!?! Unacceptable. Shame on you HP. I will not be buying an HP again.

Steps:
- on the printer, go into the printer’s Setup | Service | LaserJet Update | Manage Updates
- set Allow Downgrade = yes, Allow Updates = yes
- download (HP_LaserJet_Pro_M280_M281_Printer_series_20200612) and run
- Point that to your printer, mine took few times since my printer connected wifi. (If wifi does not work, use a USB printer cable to direct connect the printer.)
- After downgrade
- on the printer, go into the printer’s Setup | Service | LaserJet Update | Manage Updates
- set Allow Updates = no (so the firmware doesn’t auto-update again and break compatibility again!)
- (also check the other options, like ‘prompt before install’)

Same problem here with MFP M281dfw. The printer worked fine, right up until the firmware update and now it refuses to print due to "Supply Problem." I reset the defaults on the machine, power cycled and reseated the toner with no change.
HP, please fix this with a new firmware upgrade or provide instructions on how to downgrade the firmware.
This is unacceptable that HP did not test this firmware before they rolled it out to everyone.

@Riddle_Decipher This recent firmware update has caused many owners to not be able to use their machines due to the Supply Problem error with no known way to bypass the error message. Please escalate a resolution to restore function.

Here is another site that REALLY WORKS! For HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw and similar.
https://www.reddit.com/r/printers/comments/jpgpp3/hp_laserjet_pro_m280_m281_printer_series_20200612/
1. Be sure to hook up your printer to your computer with a USB cable--IT WILL NOT WORK OVER WIRELESS.
2. As mentioned in previous posts, be sure to change the Allow Firmware Downgrade to YES, and change Allow Updates to YES, prior to the next step. I found my settings under Setup > Service > LaserJet Update > Manage Updates >
- Allow Downgrade --> YES
- Check Automatically --> NO (so the problem doesn't happen again)
- Check Before Install --> Prompt (so HP doesn't attempt an upgrade w/o you knowing about it)
- Allow Updates --> YES (Change this to NO when you are done so the problem doesn't happen again)
3. Click the link on the web page listed above, and it will run a firmware updater app, and will downgrade your printer to firmware version 20200612.
4. When updater completes, change Allow Updates to NO.
5. Turn off your printer; remove the USB cable; restart your printer. You may want to print a Configuration Report and verify that the Firmware Datecode is set to 20200612.
6. NOTE: After I ran the updater, if left a "document" in my print queue. I just cancelled/deleted the document, and all was good to go. WHEW! I took me hours to find this solution and execute it, but I'm a happy camper now. I hope it works for you!
