Hi @Hedurhrj733 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 printer is showing a "Supply system problem" and doesn't recognize a brand-new yellow cartridge, here are steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Verify the Cartridge
- Check for Genuine HP Cartridges: Ensure you’re using a genuine HP cartridge. Non-HP cartridges can sometimes cause recognition issues.
- Inspect the Cartridge:
- Check for protective tape covering the electrical contacts or ink nozzles and remove it if present.
- Inspect the cartridge for physical damage or ink leaks.
2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
- Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the cartridge slot with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. Allow them to dry completely.
- Reinsert the cartridge firmly.
3. Reset the Printer
- Disconnect the power cord while the printer is on.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
- Check if the error clears.
4. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Outdated firmware can sometimes cause cartridge recognition problems.
- Download and install the latest firmware for your printer from the HP support website.
5. Try a Different Cartridge
- If possible, try another yellow cartridge (preferably genuine HP) to rule out a defective cartridge.
6. Perform a Printer Hard Reset
- Remove all cartridges.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for 10 minutes.
- Reinstall the cartridges and power on the printer.
7. Disable Cartridge Protection (If Applicable)
- Go to the printer's settings using the control panel or HP Smart app.
- Navigate to Settings > Preferences > Cartridge Protection and disable it if enabled.
8. Run a Diagnostic Report
- On the printer's control panel, select Setup > Printer Maintenance > Print Quality Report.
- Look for errors or patterns indicating a cartridge issue.
