My DeskJet 3755 was acting funny, so I bought SmartTank 5101 with 2 years of ink about two months ago.  But the old printer is back to life and is working fine.  Can I wait until the old printer is kaput, or switch to the new printer?  If I wait for another 2 or 3 months, will the new printer's ink dry up?  ( the new printer is still in the box, never opened.)

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Kumi1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Ink Longevity: Generally, printer ink doesn't dry up quickly, especially if it remains sealed in the packaging. Ink will stay fresh for several months if stored properly. Since your HP Smart Tank 5101 is still in the box and unopened, the ink should remain in good condition.

Printer Usage: If your DeskJet 3755 is working fine for your current needs, there's no immediate rush to switch printers. However, once the DeskJet experiences issues again, you have the Smart Tank 5101 as a backup.

Smart Tank Advantage: The HP Smart Tank series is designed for heavy-duty usage and has a large ink capacity that is cost-effective in the long run, making it potentially more suitable if you have higher printing demands.

Storage Precautions: Ensure that the unopened Smart Tank 5101 is stored in a cool, dry environment to prevent any potential issues with ink or hardware.

I hope this helps.
