HP Tango X

Replaced black and color cartridge. Amber light, flashing green light, flashing X light. Every light is blinking or flashing.

Followed reset procedure 3 times and all lights have continued to flash.

Removed new cartridges and replaced with old cartridges and lights still flash.

Not sure what to do?

Hi @Bostwicklakegir

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue with your Tango X printer after replacing the ink cartridges. The combination of amber light, flashing green light, and flashing X light suggests that the printer is unable to properly recognize the new cartridges or there's an issue with the printer itself. Here’s a step-by-step guide to try and resolve the issue:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly.

  • Power off the printer.
  • Open the printer and remove the cartridges carefully.
  • Check the new cartridges for any protective tape that may have been left on them (usually a piece of plastic film covering the ink nozzle). If present, remove the protective tape.
  • Reinstall the cartridges one at a time, ensuring they are seated properly in their slots. You should hear a click or feel some resistance when they are correctly placed.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

If the lights continue to blink after you've ensured the cartridges are properly installed, try performing a hard reset.

Steps for a Hard Reset:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 60 seconds to ensure any residual power in the printer is fully discharged.
  3. Plug the printer back in and power it on.
  4. Open the printer lid and check the cartridge area. Wait for the cartridges to center.
  5. Close the lid and check if the lights stop flashing.

3. Check for Any Obstructions

Look around the cartridge slot and inside the printer for any debris or obstructions. Even small particles can cause issues with the printer's ability to detect the cartridges properly.

4. Try a Different Set of Cartridges

It’s possible that the new cartridges you installed are defective. Try the following:

  • If you still have the old cartridges, reinstall them to see if the issue resolves. This will help determine if the problem is with the new cartridges.
  • Use genuine HP cartridges if you have access to them, as third-party cartridges sometimes cause compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
