I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 9015.

I want to print in Black and White.

I have depleted "Colored Cartridges", and it will not let me print in "Black and White" until I replace said cartrigdes that I will not use.

Why is there not a bypass to print in Black and White? Why must I buy a product I will not use to use a printer that should printer that should print in Black and White?

Why design a system that royally disadvantages the consumer?

Technology is stupid.

I am sorry you are unhappy.

You need not buy a product that requires ink in all cartridges to be able to print.

That said, if the printer you describe is your printer, then yes --

This printer series uses a four-cartridge ink system AND all cartridges must be usable.

and

All cartridges must be installed and functional.

The four-cartridges-needed is true even if you make every effort to change every single of the several settings to force Black only printing.

The printer series is designed to use a bit of color ink to enhance Black color ink printing.

The four cartridge design is not "all printers" -- the design does include this type of printer:  OfficeJet

-- Yeah, but -- That's stupid --

There are a few printers that use a two-cartridge system -- one black cartridge and one tri-color cartridges.

Some of these two-cartridge printers can run in "single cartridge" mode.  When a two-cartridge printer supports single cartridge mode, the feature is usually described in the printer's user manual.

Technology is smart -- but it's a selective "smartness" and not an all inclusive "always get what you want" kind of smart.

Black ink only – empty ink cartridge(s) – “single cartridge mode”

You need not read the following -- there are no surprises -- the documentation does explain ink cartridge design and ink use.
