HP Envy Photo 7858
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Envy Photo 7858 has terrible print quality.  I have done the alignment, cleaned the heads, and done a print quality diagnostic.  The print quality diagnostic was so poor it was hard to read, with parts of whole lines of print missing, blurry, and complete color blocks missing.  My ink level is fine.  Does ink get too old need to be replaced?  This is HP ink, by the way.  When the printer prints, it sometimes makes terrible sounds. like a grinding noise.  The printer is 3 ish years old, not used very much, and has been a source or huge frustration.  Constantly goes offline, also.  Will not be buying an HP printer again.

I have the same problem, but my printer is HP Envy 5030, and it's mostly the black ink that's defective. Also I don't experience any weird sounds; it's just illegible. Attached is a scan of the print quality sheet.

I think HP just plans the mechanisms to stop working after it's just out of warranty. My printer is also almost 3 years old, but I barely used over the years. I probably used less than 100 prints. Typical planned obsolescence. Now they say they can fix it if they get more money from me. Which is obviously not happenning. And I even had the Instank Ink program.

Unless HP offers me instructions on how to fix this on my own, I will never ever buy any single item from HP again, and I will warn all my friends and colleagues to avoid it at all costs. I know that the chances of them actually wanting to help me here are as close to zero as my wish to buy an HP product now, but I ask anyway.

EDIT: I can't believe it, but I found a solution (no thanks to HP though). LINK TO FIX . I can't believe HP would rather make a customer lose his patience over several days, try 2 dozen different "cleaning of cartridges" while such an easy solution exists. Probably because they are worried about liability in case it's done improperly? I dont know.

Your print quality diagnostic sheet looked about as poor as mine did .  I just tried the fix that someone sent to you.  My black ink now looks a little better but I still have no yellow ink at all.  I think you're exactly right that HP has built a product to last just long enough work barely past it's warranty.  It's kind of infuriating to have to buy a new printer so often.  Anyone have a suggestion for a printer that is not HP?

@nothingworks3, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand the print quality is not satisfactory and the yellow is not printed. I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve this issue by performing the necessary troubleshooting steps.

Have you tried using an alternate color ink cartridge?

Ensure you are using HP ink cartridges. Check the ink levels and replace any low/empty ink cartridges (skip if already checked)

Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues

Clean the ink cartridges up to 2 times and print a quality report to check the result.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your computer.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Try making a standalone copy in black and color to check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

If the issue persists, please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the replacement/service options.

If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
