Hi @Shmuel16,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 is printing with empty lines, it's usually indicative of a printhead issue or a clogged printhead nozzles.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
Clean the Printhead:
- From the printer control panel, go to Setup or Tools.
- Look for the option to clean the printhead. Run the printhead cleaning utility. This process will help remove any dried ink or debris that may be blocking the nozzles.
Manual Cleaning (if necessary):
- If the automatic printhead cleaning doesn't resolve the issue, you can manually clean the printhead:
- Remove the printhead from the printer (refer to your printer's manual for instructions).
- Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water and gently wipe the underside of the printhead.
- Reinstall the printhead back into the printer and perform a printhead cleaning cycle again.
Check Ink Levels:
- Ensure that your ink cartridges have sufficient ink. Low ink levels can also cause printing issues.
Alignment Check:
- Perform a printhead alignment. This ensures that the printhead nozzles are properly aligned to the paper.
Printer Firmware Update: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve printing issues.
Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges:
- Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Refilled or non-HP cartridges may not work properly and can lead to print quality issues.
Print Quality Diagnostic Report:
- Print a diagnostic report from your printer's control panel to identify if there are any specific issues reported by the printer itself.
Check Paper Quality:
- Make sure you are using the correct type and size of paper recommended for your printer. Improper paper type can sometimes cause print quality issues.
