Hi @CharStep

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 is having trouble printing cyan, even though the cartridge is full. This issue is often related to clogged printheads, firmware bugs, or cartridge recognition problems.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

1. Run Printhead Cleaning Cycles

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning process two or three times to see if cyan starts printing.

2. Print a Diagnostic Report

  • Navigate to Setup → Reports → Print Quality Report.
  • Check if cyan appears in the color blocks. If it’s missing, the ink flow may be blocked.

3. Check the Cyan Cartridge

  • Remove the cyan cartridge and inspect the vent (a small plastic strip on top).
  • If clogged, gently clean it with a pin or soft cloth.
  • Shake the cartridge slightly to redistribute ink and reinsert it securely.

4. Perform a Power Drain

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
  • Wait 2–3 minutes, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and restart.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • HP occasionally releases firmware updates that fix ink recognition issues.
  • Download the latest firmware from HP’s support page.

If none of these steps work, the printhead may need manual cleaning or replacement. Let me know if you need further guidance!
