HP Envy 5055. Error message: The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer.

The printer worked flawlessly for 4 years, and then one day, the error message appeared.

I have done literally everything that HP suggests to correct the problem (replace cartridge, clean contacts, restart, etc, etc,), yet it persists. I have no more options left to try. Thanks for any help.

Hi @TTTe24,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering the error message "The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer" on your HP Envy 5055 printer, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Cartridge Installation Check: Ensure that the cartridges are properly installed in their respective slots. Open the printer cover and check if the cartridges are securely seated in their slots. If they seem loose, remove and reinsert them carefully.
  • Cartridge Compatibility: Make sure you are using genuine HP cartridges that are compatible with your HP Envy 5055 printer model. Using third-party or non-HP cartridges might lead to communication errors.
  • Cartridge Contacts Cleaning: Cartridge contacts might accumulate dirt or ink residue over time, which can interfere with communication. Gently remove the cartridges and clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges as well as in the corresponding slots inside the printer using a clean, lint-free cloth.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Power on the printer and check if the error persists.
  • Firmware Update: Outdated printer firmware can sometimes cause communication errors. Check the HP website for firmware updates specific to your printer model, and if available, follow the instructions to update the firmware.
  • Cartridge Replacement: If the above steps don't resolve the issue, try replacing the cartridges with new, genuine HP cartridges to see if the error message persists. Sometimes, cartridges might be faulty or depleted, causing communication issues.
  • Reset the Printer: Perform a printer reset to restore the default settings. The process might vary, but generally, you can find the reset option in the printer's menu or settings

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
