Hello,
I had a replacement unboxed cartridge model 902 Xl , used it to replace my empty cartridge but it didn't work as an error message popped saying its an older generation cartridge and won't work . I called HP support and they said that warranty is over and so it won't work.
So my question is "why I was never informed that the cartridge was suppose to be used before the warranty date" this is just a bad business practice by HP to make the cartridge not work after certain time", which forces individuals to buy new cartridges.

Hi @KKDP,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the error message you're encountering with your HP OfficeJet 6962 All-in-One Printer typically occurs when the printer detects that the installed cartridges are not compatible. This can happen if the cartridges are from an older generation or were meant for a different region or model.
Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue:
Verify Cartridge Compatibility:
- Ensure that the cartridges you're using are specifically designed for the HP OfficeJet 6962. The compatible cartridges are usually the HP 902, 902XL, 906XL, or another cartridge that matches the printer's requirements.
Check for Region Locking:
- HP cartridges are sometimes region-locked. If you've moved to a different region or ordered the cartridges from a different country, they might not be recognized by your printer.
Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Remove the cartridges and gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on. Reinstall the cartridges and check if the error persists.
Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware might not support newer cartridges, and updating it might resolve the issue.
Replace Cartridges:
- If the cartridges are still not recognized, try replacing them with new, genuine HP cartridges specifically listed as compatible with your model.
