My printer, HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 is inoperable. The ink cartridge is stuck at the right side of the printer. No paper jam or impediment. I’ve tried everything recommended online to reset. I’ve even tried to remove the top to free it manually, but couldn’t get to the back screws. The printer is like new. Minimal use over the years. What else can I do to free up the cartrdige?

Hi @MRCHC,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry you're dealing with this, especially with a nearly new printer that's barely been used; it must be incredibly frustrating to see it stuck and unresponsive despite all your careful efforts.
Please try the steps shared below, This will help to try and free the ink cartridge on the HP OfficeJet Pro 6968:
1. Power Reset (Hard Reset)
This can sometimes force the carriage to reinitialise:
- Turn on the printer (if it isn’t already).
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the printer (not just the wall).
- Unplug from the wall as well.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back into the wall directly (no surge protector), then back into the printer.
- Please turn it on again.
Check if the carriage now moves on startup.
2. Open Ink Access Door and Gently Nudge
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- If the carriage is stuck to the far right, unplug the printer again while it’s powered on (forces a freeze state).
- Gently push the carriage left with two fingers — don’t force it hard.
- If it resists completely, skip pushing.
3. Check for Any Obstruction (Even Invisible Ones)
- Shine a flashlight inside the cartridge area, especially along the carriage path.
- Look for tiny paper bits, broken plastic parts, or dried ink buildup on the carriage rail.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the carriage path.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
