The *printer is printing a blank page – after just having made 4 good photocopies. It is now doing the same when printing from the computer. It makes the noise/motions of making a good print, but the sheet comes out blank. The scan works fine, just the printing comes out blank. I tried HP Smart and HP Print and Scan Doctor, but still printing blank – even the ‘test copy’. Help!

Hi @kl-c ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are HP Photosmart printer to print blank pages. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
- Check ink levels: Ensure that your ink cartridges have enough ink to print. Low ink levels can sometimes cause blank pages. You can check the ink levels through the printer's control panel or via the HP Smart app.
- Clean the printhead: Over time, the printhead may become clogged with dried ink, which can result in blank pages. Most HP printers have a built-in printhead cleaning utility that you can access through the printer's settings menu. Run the printhead cleaning utility to see if it resolves the issue.
- Align the printhead: Sometimes, misalignment of the printhead can cause blank pages. Many HP printers have an automatic printhead alignment feature that you can access through the printer's settings menu. Run the printhead alignment utility to ensure that the printhead is properly aligned.
- Check for driver updates: Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause printing issues. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website or through the HP Smart app.
- Restart the printer: Sometimes, simply restarting the printer can resolve temporary issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on again.
- Perform a factory reset: As a last resort, you can try performing a factory reset on the printer to restore it to its original settings. Keep in mind that this will erase any custom settings you have configured on the printer. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

Thank you Gaya1239 - you spent a lot of time on the thorough reply - much appreciated. I had actually tried to do everything you had recommended (including downloading the manual) except for the last step. From past experience, I had tried to find **how to clean/align the printheads but couldn't find how to do it since the HP Solution Center has been discontinued. BUT you gave me the correct VOCABULARY to search for in the manual, and I found it - it seems to have worked. THANKS.
Just in case i need it - CAN YOU PLS TELL ME HOW TO DO A 'FACTORY RESET'? I tried to find how to do a 'factory reset' in the manual, but the only 'reset' I can find tells me to unplug/plug the printer in. Thank you....
** Here is the valuable note from the manual in case it helps someone else: NOTE: You can also open the Printer Toolbox from the Print Properties dialog box. In the Print Properties dialog box, click the Features tab, and then click the Printer Services button.

Thanks Gaya, you have been taking good care of me. There is no private message for me about how to do a factory reset, but that's ok because the 'clean printhead' solution seems to be 'holding' (although after I had to fix my scan connection through HP Print and Scan Doctor a few times).
I submitted 'Feedback' praising your assistance, but last time and this time I couldn't find “Kudos/Thumbs Up" anywhere??? (I even checked your profile...)
