Hi @StacyAdmin,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the error message you're encountering on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 likely points to an issue with the ink cartridges or the supply system. Here are some steps to help resolve this issue:
1. Check Ink Cartridges:
- Remove and Reinstall: Open the printer and carefully remove each ink cartridge. Wait a few seconds and then reinsert them properly.
- Check for Ink Quality: Ensure that the ink cartridges are not empty, damaged, or clogged. If you have an extra set, try replacing the affected cartridge with a different one to see if the error clears.
2. Reset the Printer:
- Power off the printer, unplug it from the electrical outlet, and wait for 30 seconds before plugging it back in. Then, turn the printer on again and see if the issue persists.
3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the ink cartridges and use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water to clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
- Let the contacts dry, then reinstall the cartridges and turn the printer back on.
4. Replace the Cartridge:
- If the issue is with one specific cartridge (e.g., it’s giving a "non-emp" error), try replacing that cartridge with a new or different one, especially if it’s an older one.
5. Check for Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Sometimes, firmware issues can cause cartridge errors. You can check for any available updates through the printer's control panel or HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
