Hi @wom65,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer continues to display a "problem with the supply system" message even after replacing the cartridge with a new HP cyan color cartridge, here are a series of troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

1. Make sure the new cartridge is genuine HP, not remanufactured

This error happens most often with non‑HP or refilled cartridges, even if they look brand new.

Check for the HP security label on the box:
🔗 : HP anti-counterfeit | HP® Official Site If your cyan cartridge is genuine → continue below.

2. Perform a Full Power Reset (deeper than unplugging for 60 seconds)

Do the full reset HP recommends:

  1. Turn printer ON
  2. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer
  3. Unplug the power from the wall outlet
  4. Wait 2 minutes (important)
  5. Plug directly into the wall (no extension board)
  6. Turn printer ON
  7. Reinsert the cyan cartridge

This resets the ink system controller.

3. Clean the electrical contacts (very important)

Sometimes the error persists because the chip contacts aren’t talking to the printer.

You’ll clean TWO THINGS:

A) Cartridge Copper Contacts

  1. Remove the cyan cartridge
  2. Find the small rectangular gold/copper contacts
  3. Wipe gently with:
    • A dry lint‑free cloth OR
    • A cotton swab with a drop of distilled water (NOT alcohol)
  4. Let dry fully

B) Printhead Electrical Contacts

Inside the carriage, you’ll see matching gold contacts.
Wipe gently, do NOT touch the nozzles.

This step alone fixes the issue in most cases.

4. Reset the ink system from the printer menu (if supported)

Some OfficeJet/DeskJet models allow this:

  1. Go to Setup
  2. Choose Printer Maintenance
  3. Select Restore Ink System or Reset Ink System

If available, this clears the “supply system problem” flag.
