HP Envy Pro 6400
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm helping my sister who doesn't know anything about computers.  I'm a retired programmer and this has me stumped.
My syster's configuration is an HP Laptop with Windows 10 with a USB-to-USB hardwire connection to her HP Envy Pro 6400 printer.  She tried to print the contents of a Word file on her printer.  The Word file contents are Time Roman at 12 point font.  But the printer prints out at a tiny font, barely legible, with an inch between lines.  Obviously I need to reset something somewhere, but where?  I'll be going over to her house on Christmas Eve.  Can you help?

Merry Christmas!  🎄

Normally, if the full driver software is installed and working as expected, the document prints according to the paper size selected using the True-Type embedded fonts in the document.  It's true that not all fonts are recognized by the printer translation software (formats the document into printer language) -- That said, shrinking the fonts down to micro-sized is not an expected result of font substitution (in my limited experience).

First thing to try >> Export the Document to PDF, Save and print the PDF formatted file.  If it works, at least the file is now on paper...

Consider uninstalling the existing printer software and reinstalling.

If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver. No Sign-in required.

Problem solved.  Thanks.

I checked what the WORD Advanced settings were on my computer and then when I went to my sister's house I checked her settings.  They were identical!  That was strange.  But, I thought, maybe they had never been accepted as the default.  So I clicked on the Set Default button and tested it and IT WORKED!  Someone had rest the WORD Advanced Option for Fonts and never bothered to Set it as the Default.

Then I moved on to the next problem.  The output was the right size font but was missing lines.  My sister had not used the printer for over 6 months and my guess was that the ink cartridges had dried out.  So I drove to the Office Depot and bought a color/blank set of #67 HP ink cartridges and back home installed them in my sister's printer.  That, as I had expected, solved that problem too.  Thanks again for the help.

Excellent.

I might misunderstand which setting you changed.

I'm aware of Font settings - and there is an Advanced tab in the Font menu / Set Default settings.

Whether I "get it" is unimportant in the context of having solved the setting issue -- merely a curiosity.

Happy Printing!
