Toner Cartridge Issues with HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP 3301cdw printer.

How do I unblock my HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP 3301cdw printer to be able to use after market ink cartridges with the after market chips? My printer will not accept the new cartridges even after disabling the cartridge setting and firm update settings.

Please help, this is very frustrating.

Thanks

Hi @sdk12,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301cdw printer. HP printers are designed to work with HP Original cartridges, and the use of third-party or aftermarket cartridges can sometimes lead to issues like these. Here are a few steps and considerations for dealing with aftermarket cartridge issues:

Steps to Troubleshoot Aftermarket Cartridge Issues

  1. Firmware Settings:
    • Make sure to disable any settings related to automatic firmware updates. Printer firmware updates from HP can sometimes include features that prevent the use of third-party cartridges.

  2. Reseat the Cartridge:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Open the printer’s cartridge compartment and carefully remove the aftermarket toner cartridges.
    • Reinstall the cartridges, ensuring they are seated properly, and close the compartment.
    • Turn the printer back on.

  3. Reset the Printer:
    • Unplug the printer power cord from the outlet and wait for about 60 seconds.
    • Plug it back in and turn on the printer. This sometimes clears temporary errors.

  4. Check Compatibility:
    • Double-check that the aftermarket cartridges are designed specifically for the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301cdw model.

  5. Bypass Cartridge Protection:
    • In some HP printers, you can disable cartridge protection in the settings. This feature might block third-party cartridges. Check your printer's embedded web server (EWS) or HP software for such an option.

  6. HP Chip Security Feature:
    • If your printer identifies cartridges by their chips, and the aftermarket chips are not compatible, they may not be recognized. In these cases, there might be limited options other than using HP original cartridges or verified compatible third-party ones.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
