To answer an older and closed post with the same title...

I own a retail MFP M528 printer and did order the 87x cartridge on Amazon and received those odd CF287XC box instead of the regular CF287XD box. On the XD box, the 87x is written in big black letter on the XC box, there is nothing other than the CF287XC written on it and the saying that it is for enterprise MFP M528 printers.

Verdict: Yes those XC cartridge works for my model. So far...

I've just tried the cartridge because of that other worrisome message on this website that stated that they might be blocked because they were not retail cartridges. Well, upon inserting the cartridge, the printer did recognize it as a genuine HP Cartrige like any other 87x cartridge and started to print with it without any problem whatsoever.

My guess is that unlike home printer where HP lose money selling them under cost and getting back their money with the ink this laserjet printer is way more expansive and durable and probably sold at a price point where HP does make some money out of them. So they probably don't care as much about the ink cartridge as the home product. The cost price of those XD cartridge is probably the same as the XC (which I guess stand for corporate) cartridges distributed directly by HP under what I've read in that other message, was their manage corporate program, meaning they probably make the same profit out of the two except the XD have additional reseller markup added to the price.

At least that is what I'm guessing.

Bottom line, they work fine with my printer.

Hope it helps...
