HP Recommended

I'm using an HP LaserJet 5P and recently put in a new toner cartridge. That cartridge was not an HP product and there was so much toner on printed pages. I assumed the cartridge was defective and replaced it with an HP C3903A cartridge. There is still too much toner on my printed pages but not as bad as with the other cartridge but the pages are gray from excess toner. Is there a way to correct this?
