Installed a new black ink cartridge on my HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 printer. Got the "This cartridge is an older generation" error. I followed Virtual Assistants troubleshooting only to land at "Cannot update the device. This Firmware Updated does not contain upgrades for your device." Not sure where to go from here....

Hi @Sherry441,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're encountering an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 printer after installing a new black ink cartridge. The error message suggests a compatibility or firmware-related problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
Reinstall the Cartridge:
- Turn off the printer.
- Remove the black ink cartridge.
- Turn on the printer again and wait for it to prompt you to insert the cartridges.
- Reinstall the black ink cartridge and check for any error messages.
Check Cartridge Compatibility:
- Ensure that the new black ink cartridge is compatible with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715. You can check the cartridge compatibility on the HP website or the printer manual.
Update Firmware Manually:
- Visit the official HP website and look for the latest firmware for your printer model.
- Download the firmware update and follow the instructions provided to manually update the printer's firmware.
Reset Printer:
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from the printer and wait for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
- Check if the error persists.
Check for Cartridge Contacts:
- Ensure that there are no obstructions or dirt on the contacts of the ink cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
Check for Software Updates:
- Ensure that your printer drivers and software are up-to-date. You can download the latest drivers from the official HP website.
Try Another Cartridge:
- If possible, try using another black ink cartridge (preferably a genuine HP cartridge) to see if the issue is specific to the cartridge itself.
Remember to follow the instructions provided by HP and avoid using third-party ink cartridges, as they may cause compatibility issues
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
