I bought my printer in the UK, but moved to USA. I changed the region on my printer to USA, but the USA cartridges are not working.

Hi @LindsayC1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that when you move to a different region and change your printer's region settings, you might still encounter issues with ink cartridges due to regional restrictions on the cartridges themselves. Here's how you can address this issue:

Perform a Regionalization Change for Cartridges:

  • It’s crucial not just to change the printer’s region but also to standardize it with the region-specific cartridges.
  • HP support can assist in resetting the printer to accept cartridges from a new region. Contact them for a regionalization reset, also known as a "regionalization change" or "regional reset."

Gather Necessary Information:

  • Have the following details ready when you contact HP:
    • Printer Model
    • Serial Number
    • New cartridges part numbers and their box (indicating US-specific).

Contact HP Support:

  • Reach out to HP’s customer support to initiate the regionalization change. This typically involves providing details about your printer and new cartridges for verification.

Ensure Genuine Cartridges:

  • Make sure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Third-party or counterfeit cartridges may not work correctly, especially after changing regions.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I just tried to use the chat function to have someone help me with the regionalization reset but the chat person was unable to help.

I have reset the printer to factory settings and I have loaded the HP printer IP address website and changed the country.  The cartridges still won't work.

I have bought 962 in USA to replace the 963 cartridges from Europe.  How do I update the printer so that it now accepts 962.  How do I do the regional reset?

I understand that you would like to perform a regional reset on an HP device, the process generally involves restoring the printer or device to its factory settings, which may vary depending on the model of the device. I would request you to please follow the steps below.

For HP Printers with FutureSmart Control Panels

  • FutureSmart 3 Control Panels:
  • Press the Home button on the printer control panel.
  • Navigate through these menus: Administration > General Settings > Restore Factory Settings.
  • A prompt will appear asking for verification. Select Reset to proceed.
  • The printer should automatically restart after the reset is complete.

Future Smart 4 or 5 Control Panels:

  • From the Home screen, open the Settings menu.
  • Navigate through these menus: General > Reset Factory Settings.
  • Click on Reset, then confirm the action by selecting Reset again.
  • The printer will restart on its own post the reset.

For HP Devices Connected via Network (Using HP Embedded Web Server)

  • Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
  • Obtain the IP address of the printer by checking the printer control panel.
  • Enter this IP address in a web browser to access the EWS.

Reset through EWS:

  • On the EWS Home page, click the General tab.
  • In the navigation pane, click Restore Factory Settings.
  • Click the Reset button to initiate the reset. The device will automatically restart.

Take care and have an amazing day!
