HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 All-in-One Printer

The printer was working fine and then it suddenly started saying that the system isn't designed to use continuous ink systems.  "Magenta"  This is an HP original cartridge.  I replaced it with a genuine Magenta HP cartridge and now it s saying the cartridge is empty even though it is new and I can clearly hear liquid inside.

Hi @Jonahc4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your printer that has an ink cartridge error.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) Refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

No, these instructions, where they could be tried have not solved the problem.I am not able to get to the settings menu as the error says Supply System Problem and cannot be cleared.

I am purchasing a printer refurbished by HP from the US so most likely it will use the 962 cartridge. How do I go about getting the 964 cartridges to be used with it?

Hi @Jonahc4,

I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much in fixing your old printer but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.

If your new printer does not support the 964 cartridges, you wont be able to use them on it to work.

You will have to use the ink cartridges that are supported with the new printer for it to work.

Take care and have a good day.
