I have set the output quality on my printer to Max DPI but when I try to print a photo I only get 3 output options - Normal, Economode, and Low Compression JPEG. Whatever I change elsewhere does not come through to the photo print page.

Hi @Aliand, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP OfficeJet Pro 8124e should allow Max DPI printing, but certain settings or software limitations might prevent the option from appearing. Here’s how to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
Check Printer Preferences in Windows/Mac
Windows:
- Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8124e → Printing Preferences.
- Go to the Paper/Quality tab.
- Under Print Quality, select Max DPI.
- Click Advanced, and ensure Enable Maximum DPI is checked.
Mac:
- Open System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8124e → Open Print Queue.
- Click Printer Settings, then navigate to Quality & Media.
- If available, set it to Max DPI.
Use the Correct Print Driver
- Ensure you have the Full Feature HP Print Driver installed from HP Support.
- If using Windows built-in driver, uninstall it and install HP’s official driver.
Try Printing from HP Smart or HP Photo Creations
- Some software, including default print dialogs, might limit DPI settings.
- Open the HP Smart app, choose Print Photo, and look for Print Quality settings.
- Alternatively, download HP Photo Creations and check if it allows Max DPI.
Verify Paper Type & Size
- High DPI settings might not be available for all paper types.
- Set Paper Type to HP Advanced Photo Paper or a similar high-quality option.
Check Firmware & Software Updates
- Outdated firmware might limit print quality options.
- Update your printer firmware through HP Smart or HP Support Assistant.
Print from Another App
- Some print dialogs override printer settings.
- Try printing from:
- Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom
- Windows Photos app
- HP Smart app
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
