Laser Jet Pro MFP M428fdw. Installed new HP ink cartridge when previous cartridge ran out. Pages print blank. Did all troubleshooting on the printer and even installed a different new HP ink cartridge. When I click on diagnostic tool in HP app, it downloads and then I get an error message: 7-zip. Cannot open file.

How to resolve?

Hello SharonOr2025,

Thank you for posting your concern,

To resolve the issue with your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdw where the pages are printing blank and you're unable to run the diagnostic tool due to a 7-zip error, follow these steps:

Check Printer Settings and Cartridge Installation

  1. Ensure Proper Installation:

    • Double-check that the new HP ink cartridges are installed correctly. They should firmly click into place.
  2. Print Test Page:

    • Try printing a test page directly from the printer's control panel to see if it prints correctly.
    • If it prints blank, there might be an issue with the printheads or cartridges.
  3. Software and Driver Check:

    • Make sure you have the latest drivers and firmware installed for your printer. You can download these from the HP Support website.

Resolve 7-zip Error

  1. Check 7-zip Installation:

    • Ensure that 7-zip is correctly installed on your computer. If not, download the latest version from the 7-zip official website and install it.
  2. Extract Diagnostic Tool Manually:

    • Once 7-zip is installed, right-click on the diagnostic tool archive file you downloaded.
    • Select 7-Zip > Extract Here to manually extract the files to your computer.
    • Run the extracted diagnostic tool files.

Additional Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

    • If the manual extraction worked, try running the HP Print and Scan Doctor again to troubleshoot-automatically any printer issues.
  2. Check the Printer's Support and Maintenance Settings:

    • Perform a Printhead Cleaning if this feature is available. Sometimes manufacturer cartridges are not properly seated, or air pockets develop, leading to non-functioning printouts.
  3. Test Different Applications:

    • Try printing from different applications to rule out issues with specific software.
  4. Contact HP Support:

    • If the problem persists, you may need to contact HP Support for further assistance or to check if there might be a hardware issue with the printer itself.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the blank page printing issue and the error with the diagnostic tool download. If issues persist, involving HP support would be beneficial for potential hardware diagnostics or repairs.
