I am trying to partially reset my Officejet Pro 8600 because of several (I think) memory errors. However, during re-installing it's asking for the original setup cartridges. Of course these were thrown away years ago when empty. And now I am stuck in the re-initialising procedure over and over again. Is a customer seriously supposed to keep those empty cartridges forever for if maybe once the time comes that he want to reset the printer?
Is there a way to bypass this part of the re-installation or dit my printer became useless because I didn't keep those empty setup cartridges all these years?

Hi @JanHH,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 install printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
Let's perform a power drain:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove the USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle
Update the printer firmware

Hello Gaya, thanks for this reply.
Unfortunately, this is not a solution. The problem is that the printer is stuck in the middle of a reset procedure. It starts with 20 seconds initialization, then asks to apply the duplexer, and after that I'm asked to insert the setup cartridges that came with the printer. Of course I don't have those anymore, there are new cartridges in the printer, and then the sequence is restarted again to the 20 seconds initialization.
The connection to my computer is lost after the very first initialization, so I cannot update the firmware anymore. So I am stuck in this setup procedure that is starting over and over again from the step of inserting the cartridges.
