I am unable to print in color. In the print preview screen or the print confirmation screen it does not give the option to print in color. Automatically will print black and white.

Also tried in my printer and scanners section to change it but again no option

Hi @CMS2019,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are unable to select the color printing option on your Mac with your HP DeskJet 4255e printer, it could be due to the printer driver settings or software configuration. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer Settings in the Print Dialog:

  1. Open the Document: Open the document you want to print.
  2. Open Print Dialog: Go to File > Print or press Command + P.
  3. Show Details: Click on the Show Details button if it is not already expanded.
  4. Select Printer Features: In the expanded print dialog, look for a dropdown menu (usually below the printer selection) and select Printer Features or Print Settings.
  5. Color Options: Look for options like Color Mode or Print Quality. Ensure that it is set to Color instead of Black & White.

2. Check Printer Preferences:

  1. System Preferences: Go to System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  2. Printers & Scanners: Select Printers & Scanners.
  3. Select Your Printer: Choose your HP DeskJet 4255e printer from the list.
  4. Options & Supplies: Click on Options & Supplies and then Driver or Options.
  5. Color Settings: Ensure that any settings related to color printing are enabled.

3. Reset Printing System:

  1. System Preferences: Go to System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  2. Printers & Scanners: Select Printers & Scanners.
  3. Right-Click (Control-Click) in the Printer List: Select Reset printing system.
  4. Re-add Printer: After resetting, re-add your HP DeskJet 4255e by clicking the + button and selecting your printer.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  1. Go to HP Support: Visit the HP Customer Support website.
  2. Search for Your Printer: Enter your printer model (DeskJet 4255e) and download the latest drivers for macOS.
  3. Install Drivers: Install the downloaded driver and restart your Mac if necessary.

5. Use HP Smart App:

  1. Download HP Smart App: If you haven't already, download and install the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store.
  2. Set Up Your Printer: Open the HP Smart app and set up your printer.
  3. Print Through HP Smart: Use the HP Smart app to print your documents, ensuring you select color options within the app.

6. Check for Firmware Updates:

  1. Visit HP Support: Go to the HP support website and search for your printer model.
  2. Download Firmware Update: If available, download and install the latest firmware update for your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
