HP Envy 6200
Microsoft Windows 11

I'm trying to set up HP Instant Ink, but is unable to due to the printer not having web services enabled (or so it thinks)

On the checkout page for instant ink, it says "Contacting printer" and goes round and round, eventually timing out

"Enable web services" says "HP Web Services hasn't enabled yet"

  • Printer has been added to HP smart
  • I've tried hiding/re-adding the printer
  • The inbuilt trouble-shooter just takes me to the HP Smart site and asks to download the app...which I already have installed and the printer added
  • I am signed into the HP account within the HP Smart app

Web Service Status: Enabled

Internet Connection: Connected

Printer connection to HP:  Disconnected

  • Tried removing/readding the printer
  • Restarting the printer
  • Turned ePrint off and on
  • Printer says connected to internet

Hi @BMC327

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying that out so clearly—it’s genuinely frustrating when everything looks connected but Instant Ink setup still refuses to cooperate.

Since your HP Envy 6200 shows Web Services enabled and Internet connected, but “Printer connection to HP: Disconnected”, the issue likely lies in how the printer is communicating with HP’s servers.

Let’s walk through a few deeper steps that can help resolve this:

🧩 Full Setup & Recovery Guide for HP Instant Ink Enrollment

1. Verify Wi-Fi Connection

  • Confirm printer is connected to your main wireless network (not a guest or mobile hotspot).
  • Check signal strength in the control panel and ensure it's "Connected".

🌐 2. Enable Web Services (or Reset Them)

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Web Services > Enable.
  • If already enabled but showing “Disconnected,” perform a Web Services reset:
    1. Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS):
      • Open a browser and type your printer’s IP address.
      • Log in (use admin + PIN under the cartridge lid if prompted).
    2. Navigate to the Web Services tab.
    3. Click Remove Web Services, restart the printer, then re-enable.
    4. Wait for the printer to print a claim code/info page.

More info: Enable Web Services Using EWS

🔄 3. Firmware Update

🧰 4. HP Smart App Check & Reclaim

  • Remove and re-add your printer in the HP Smart app.
  • Use the newly generated claim code from the printer info page if applicable.
  • Ensure you’re signed into the HP account used for Instant Ink.

🔌 5. Reboot Devices

Restart your:

  • Printer
  • Computer
  • Router

A clean reboot flushes network cache and stale connections.

🔐 6. Firewall & Router Configuration

  • Temporarily disable third-party firewalls or VPNs that might interfere with HP server communication.
  • Log in to your router and ensure port 5222 (HP Web Services) isn't blocked.
  • Avoid captive portals, guest networks, or networks with restricted device isolation.

🧼 7. Printer Factory Reset (if needed)

  • On the printer control panel:
Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Settings > Restore Factory Defaults
  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-enable Web Services afterward.

🧠 8. Test USB vs. Wi-Fi Connection

  • Ensure that Instant Ink setup is attempted over Wi-Fi—not USB.
  • USB-connected printers won’t complete enrollment properly.

🆘 9. Contact HP Instant Ink Support

  • Visit the HP Support Contact Page.
  • Choose Subscription Support > Instant Ink > Enrollment Issues.
  • Provide your printer serial number and a summary of what you’ve tried.

Let me know which step you’re on or what happens after the Web Services reset. You’re very close—let’s get Instant Ink syncing smoothly! 🖨💡
