Good morning to all,
I own an HP2700 jet printer.
I just installed a brand new color cartridge (setup model) to replace an old one.
The printer went on alarm and printing was no longer possible.
The alarm signal on the printer interface blinks, the colour cartridge icon blinks and shows an empty color cartridge and ink problem led blinks.
Re-installing the old (empty) cartridge, brings back everything to normal : I can print in B&W.
How is it that a new, authentic, all singing an dancing HP cartridge is upsetting an equally all singing and dancing HP printer ?
Thanks by advance,
Regards,

Hi @Fr-33,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your printer that has an ink cartridge error.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.
If you are using a setup ink cartridge as a replacement for your old ink cartridge, it wont work as the setup ink cartridge is only used for inital setup of a new printer.
If you are using an HP genunie cartridge that was bought online or from the store.
Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.
A) Perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.
C) Refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.
D) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults and let me know if that resolves the issue.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day

Hello @Irwin6
Thanks for the time taken to answer me and for the answer.
I regret to say that none of the solutions supplied has been useful as, as you explained, the printer has been programmed to refuse any setup cartridge but the first one. Even resetting it does not erase this information.
I hope that you will understand that I am less than happy of this situation. I expect that the printer bought with this cartridge will also refuse to use it as it has been set up some months ago. I also expect this cartridge to be dry before I can reach it.
Additionnally, I spent a awful lot of time to try to solve a situation that is not clearly explained in the user's documention. Finally, I now need to by a full cartridge (€30 or so) to print one page (less than half of it as a matter of fact).
Again, I thank you as a person, but cannot thank HP on the matter.

Hi @Fr-33,
I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.
Unfortunately, If the setup ink cartridge was already used while setting it up.
Then you wont be able to use the same setup ink cartridge again as it is as per the design.
I appreciate your efforts in contacting HP community support and If you need any assistance in the future, feel free to reach out to us.
Take care and have a great day ahead!
